Contraindications
Please review the contraindications to GLP-1 below. If any apply to you, GLP-1 therapy may not be appropriate.
Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
This is the core black-box warning across the class, based on rodent studies showing thyroid C-cell tumors. Applies to personal history and family history in a first-degree relative.
Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
Same black-box warning — MEN 2A or MEN 2B, personal or family history.
Known hypersensitivity to the drug or any component of the formulation
A known allergy to the active medication or any inactive ingredient is an absolute contraindication.
Pregnancy
GLP-1 medications are contraindicated during pregnancy and should be stopped if pregnancy occurs.
Active pancreatitis or history of pancreatitis
Active pancreatitis or a prior history of pancreatitis is a contraindication to starting GLP-1 therapy.
Severe gastroparesis / severe GI motility disorders
Not FDA-labeled as absolute, but functionally a contraindication given the mechanism (delayed gastric emptying) can seriously worsen these conditions.
This list is for screening purposes only and does not replace a medical evaluation. If you are unsure whether any of these apply to you, please schedule a consultation so we can review your history together. Ashley can only see patients in Oklahoma at this time.
